Aviation Cocktail
Ingredients;
60ml Gin
20ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
15ml St Andrews Limes Lemon Juice
Method;
Combine the Gin, Maraschino Liqueur and Lemon juice in a mixing glass/shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
History;
The Aviation first appeared in print in 1916 in Recipes for Mixed drinks, by Hugo Ensslin, the head bartender at the hotel Wallick in Times Square, New York. The original recipe included creme de violette, which created a sky blue drink- hence the name from the earliest days of aviation. Alas the creme de violette is no longer available so the aviation now no longer resembles the original in look. There is even a new gin from Portland Oregon called Aviation with its sights set on being mixed up with this old favourite.
